Why I write romance
Fiction as a doorway
Why would a missionary write romance novels?
Rane sees fiction as a doorway into the lives of readers who may never enter a church, or who may not yet know how deeply Jesus loves them. Through her stories, she hopes to encourage those who feel down, discouraged, or forgotten, and to speak life and joy into their hearts.
Realizing the lack of reading material for enjoyment, she received the idea to write romance with a message for young and old, men and women.
Rane began writing professionally in 2010. She believes God created romance with marriage in mind, so her stories explore relationships with purpose.
The questions her characters consider
- Are they suited to one another?
- Are they moving in the same direction?
- Are they mature enough for marriage?
- What purpose might their union serve?
Darkness and light
Her novels are clean, engaging, and direct. They blend danger, laughter, wholesome conversation, meaningful situations, and fun without becoming sermons. Readers will encounter both darkness and light, and may be surprised by the purpose at the heart of each story.
